Critic reviews
"The 2022 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the well-defined nose that exudes ripeness but retains plenty of freshness, thanks to the 70-80% whole bunches. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins and very well-balanced with gentle grip on the composed finish. Nicely focused and persistent, this is an excellent Volnay."
Neal Martin, November 2023

"This is also markedly spicy with its slightly riper array of cassis, kirsch, violet and soft earth scents. The rich, powerful and bigger-bodied flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also helps to buffer the firmer tannic spine shaping the lingering mocha-inflected finish."
Allen Meadows, April 2024

"Cask sample. Deep-mid ruby. Ripe red cherry, raspberry and cassis. More structured than the Caillerets, with firm, ripe, well-knit tannins enveloping the rich fruit at its centre. Great length and intensity. Early days."
Matthew Hayes, November 2023, JancisRobinson.com

"1 x 350 litre barrel, two thirds whole bunch vinification. A dense purple with a black rim. Raspberry and blackberry on the nose. There is a richness to the fruit which justifies its tasting position after Caillerets, though perhaps less finesse, quite muscular here with firmer tannins."
Jasper Morris, November 2023, InsideBurgundy.com
