Proper Amarone! Unmistakable blind, this is opulent, yet balanced, the alcohol doesn't impinge one jot. Considering the price of Amarone these days, this is a smashing buy and ticks all the boxes for this region.

"Packaged with a black label, the organic Pieropan 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella offers deep richness, dried cherry, blackcurrant, asphalt, Christmas spice and caramel. The bouquet shows rich and broad strokes, and the wine is brooding with power and intensity. This full-bodied red has soft tannins and deep layers of thick fruit to pair with steak in a cream and peppercorn sauce. The alcohol content is a powerful 16%, and 28,000 bottles were made."
Monica Larner, October 2023

"A blend of cherry sauce and sweet herbs is complicated by cocoa and clove as the 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella blossoms in the glass. It washes across the palate with velvety textures contrasted by zesty acidity and tart wild berry fruits, coming across as more savory than sweet and decidedly spicy. The 2017 lingers impossibly long, mixing bitter hints of dried orange rinds with licorice and pretty inner florals. While the child of a warm vintage, this is beautifully harmonious from start to finish. 2024-2035"
Eric Guido, March 2023

"Legendary Soave producers, the Pieropan family bought vineyards high in the Illasi valley on the Monte Garzon hillside in 2000, which provide the fruit for their Amarone. Winemaking follows a classic formula, with ageing for 24 to 30 months in French oak of varying sizes. Dense and lush aromas with a whisper of dried and candied fruits and exotic spices are followed by a full, sumptuously textured palate with chewy, ripe fruit flavours balanced by fabulous fresh acidity. Plenty of scope for further development."
