"Confirming the expectations formed at the en primeur stage, the 2023 La Garde opens with aromas of dark wild berries, mulberries, cassis and spices, accented by licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and sapid, it offers good depth at the core, framed by structured, powdery tannins and concluding with a long, mineral finish. Its slightly earthy character will benefit from a few years in bottle to gain further breadth and nuance."
Yohan Castaing, April 2026, RobertParker.com
"The 2023 La Garde has a lifted bouquet that is nicely defined, with plenty of blackberry and bilberry fruit and subtle loamy scents percolating through. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, good body and ample structure, but it delivers more fruit than some of its peers. La Garde has been an improving estate in recent years, and this is another fine wine to add to that roster."
Neal Martin, April 2024, Vinous.com
"The 2023 La Garde is a big step forward for this Pessac-Léognan estate. It's the first vintage in which Cabernet Sauvignon drives the blend. Blackberry, graphite, lavender, menthol and chocolate fill out the layers. Dark and resonant, with terrific persistence, La Garde is impressive."
Antonio Galloni, March 2026, Vinous.com
"Fresh red berries with a mineral edge and some elegant spices. Polished and precise, with medium body and fine-grained tannins. Almost a bit chalky in texture. A blend of 57% cabernet sauvignon and 43% merlot. Drink now or hold."
James Suckling, January 2026, JamesSuckling.com
"Pretty austere at this point, still very much a young primeur style, balanced and finessed with firm raspberry and damson, and grilled oak. First year with Axel Marchal and Christophe Ollivier as consultants, with greater selection as this estate looks towards quality."
