Our story
Thank you for your interest in Abingdon Fine Wine. I appreciate there are many wine merchants to choose from, so I’m truly grateful that you have considered us.

With 24 years in the trade – most recently leading the Fine Wine division of one of the UK’s largest wine merchants – I founded Abingdon Fine Wine two years ago, inspired by my then residency in the South Oxfordshire town. The aim was simple: to create a wine business shaped by my core values – exceptional communication, integrity, and transparency.
Unlike many larger operations, my overheads are relatively modest, so I’m not here to chase short-term sales to meet ambitious budgets. My approach is to take the time to understand what you’re looking for in terms of both product and service, and to build lasting relationships founded on trust. In such a competitive industry, I believe this kind of care and personal attention benefits everyone in the long run.

My picks
Buying wine without having had the benefit of tasting them in advance can be a daunting prospect. Which critics should you trust and which most align with your own tastes, what should you do if there are no independent tasting notes, and when were the tasting notes written? It’s especially tough when wine merchants' emails are full of hyperbole.
Like anyone, I have my own tastes; I like relatively fruit-forward Bordeaux, I am very fond of white Burgundy with higher than average acidity, and I’m not particularly keen on Cabernet Franc. I prefer Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier-based sparkling wine rather than Blanc de Blancs. I cannot guarantee my tastes mirror your own, but I can say that whenever I put a ‘My Pick’ on a wine and include it on this page, it’s because I would happily spend the money to buy the wines in question. In fact, I probably already have. I’m not sure there’s a more robust validation for a wine from a wine merchant than that.
