A wine which always flies under the radar en primeur, but in my experience proves incredibly popular once consumed when mature. From The Moueix family of Petrus-fame, this is a remarkably well priced, bonifide Pomerol. Typically for the Moueix family, this is elegant, refined and well polished.

"The 2022 Chantalouette comes across as just a little Bretty on the nose, missing the freshness of some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied, with bitter black fruit tones, touches of black pepper and a slight attenuation at the finish. It's so-so."

"The 2022 Chante Alouette, the second wine from Château de Sales, is a potent, brooding Pomerol. Incense, wild herbs, scorched earth and tobacco meld into a core of somber dark fruit. There's no shortage of substance or tannin here, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced."

"The second wine of Château De Sales, the 2022 Château Chantalouette is based on 72% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, all from a larger vineyard of gravelly, iron-laced soils. This ruby-hued 2022 has a solid perfume of ripe black cherries, leafy herbs, damp earth, and graphite that carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, lush, seamless Pomerol that's perfect for drinking any time over the coming decade or more. For a second wine, it has terrific tannins and should easily be an outstanding wine."

"High Cabernet Sauvignon for a Pomerol, at 13% of the blend, medium intensity deep cherry red in colour. Soft waves of white pepper and baking spice, wth crushed raspberry fruit, attractive and gentle, a little underpowered on the finish. Harvest September 7 to 21. This is the 2nd wine of Château de Sales, from a big vineyard of 47.5ha."
