"Ridge's Geyserville, first produced in 1966, is a classic field blend sourced from three adjoining vineyards on a single soil type, deposited by an ancient washout of the Russian River. The 2023 vintage is a blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet. The wine is fermented with native yeasts using a floating cap and daily pump-overs, undergoes full malolactic fermentation naturally, and is aged for sixteen months in air-dried American oak barrels. This wine embodies the vineyard’s history, delivering structure, complexity, and a refined expression of site-driven character. The 2023 vintage experienced heavy winter rains that replenished groundwater. Moderate temperatures during the growing season were followed by cooler weather in August and September, pushing harvest late into October. The extended ripening period resulted in a wine with dark fruit and supple tannins balanced by beautiful acidity. Enjoyable now, this classic field blend will continue to evolve over the next ten years. Deep and concentrated, this wine reveals aromas of ripe black cherry, blueberry, and fig, interwoven with notes of wild herbs, graphite, and sweet oak spice. A plush, full-bodied texture is balanced by lively acidity and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and refined, with lingering flavours of dark chocolate, espresso, and dried violet."
