"The extremities of the year—which ran to notable hydric stress on some clays in ultra-dry Essex and indeed beyond—make themselves known in this firmly drawn 2022 Pinot Noir, whose quality will best show from 2026 onward. With dark cherry, earth and roasted spice aromatics, the fruit is tightly bound for now, although there’s nothing out of place—time on cork will elicit a little further silkiness and perfume to provide some light and shade against the sense of raw extract still settling."

"The 2022 Pinot Noir has more concentration than the previous vintage. It shows a mixture of red and black fruit and veins of blue fruit that I have not noticed in previous releases. It's riper but still very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy, ripe black fruit, perhaps a little more New World influenced than Burgundy. Grainy tannins are well integrated with impressive grip towards the finish, with a touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. This will require a couple of years in bottle."

"Mid crimson. Aromas of non-sweet dark-red fruit, just slightly herbal but definitely ripe. Sweeter-fruited than I expected, just the right fruit intensity for the fine but definite tannins. Finishes slightly lean but fresh and balanced."
