Critic reviews
"Affected by frost and hail—yielding barely 25 hectoliters per hectare—Samuel Billaud’s 2024 Petit Chablis wafts from the glass with scents of lemon oil, Granny Smith apple and oyster liquor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, taut and chiseled, displaying the coolness of the vintage with a taut musculature. It is vinified exclusively in stainless steel."
Kristaps Karklins, January 2026, RobertParker.com
"The 2024 Petit Chablis Sur Les Clos was cropped around 15 hl/ha due to poor flowering. It has a clean, well-defined nose with more energy than its peers. The palate has a crisp, citric line of acidity. This is very tensile and energetic with superb weight on the finish. The 2024 is classy."
Neal Martin, June 2025, Vinous.com
"Mineral, limey and slightly peachy on the nose, with lots of brightness here. Limey and saline, with very serious tension, tautness and density for petit chablis. The wine comes from a vineyard on top of Les Clos. The best petit chablis I have had for a while. Can’t believe this is petit chablis. Drink or hold."
Zekun Shuai, May 2026, JamesSuckling.com
"A classic Chablis nose of mineral reduction, iodine and Granny Smith apple leads to dense and gorgeously textured middle weight flavors that culminate in a detailed, even chiseled, long finish that is markedly dry finish but not especially austere. This is an excellent Petit Chablis."

"Expressive, pure, direct citrus aroma, both lemon and grapefruit, plus a lovely overlay of stone dust, and almost floral. Masses of tension and a fine grip, high acidity is balanced by that firm texture and terrific length. More and more aromatic with air. Much lower yields than in 2023, which was up at the legal maximum."
Julia Harding, August 2025, JancisRobinson.com
"Understated, showing bright aromas of lemon peel and green apple on the initial attack, leading into a lively, fresh texture, light body and moderate length. The grapes are from the top of Les Clos in the lieu-dit Sur Les Clos, from vines planted in 1976. Although there was a bit of hail here, Billaud managed 20 hl/ha, producing a refreshing wine perfect for drinking on release."
Charles Curtis, September 2025, Decanter.com
"Yields were a very modest 20 hl/ha. Pale in colour, beautifully lively, such racy energy in Samuel’s wines. Dancing on a head of a green pin, stones take up the finish. Tendrils of something riper, but this will please purists a lot. Long and classy. Drink from 2026-2027."
Jasper Morris, June 2025, InsideBurgundy.com
"This is from a plot just above Les Clos, and it punches well above its weight. Lively, bright, stony and mineral with good texture and weight. This shows depth and vitality. Very fine."
