Following the roaring success of the ripe and generous 2022s, the first white Burgundies from the more classical 2023 vintage have now arrived in stock—fresh in last week—from the outstanding St-Véran estate, Domaine de la Croix Senaillet.

“These wines deserve a higher reputation”

Last year, I offered just 'La Grande Bruyère', which in 2023 was another great success quality to the 2022—perhaps a little less exotic, but showing greater minerality, a trait the previous vintage didn’t quite wear as confidently. Neal Martin clearly approves, scoring the wine an impressive 91–93 points. For context, that’s the same as the 2023 Corton-Charlemagne from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti— in that case yours for a cool £4000+ per bottle. Rather puts things in perspective.

      “I adore the 2023 vintage”

This year, having tasted the full range, my pick is 'Les Rochats'—as it was for Jancis Robinson, who attended the same tasting. She singled it out as “very good value”, and I couldn’t agree more—though of course you'd expect me to say that. It’s the more classical of the two, a touch firmer, with finer food-pairing credentials and a definite mineral backbone thanks to its limestone-rich soils.

Whichever you choose, I suspect you’ll be thoroughly pleased. I'm delighted to have found this estate.
