Château Marjosse Blanc
Bordeaux 2023
Bordeaux, France
Antonio Galloni's Value White of the Year 2023
A ripe, almost Burgundian-style honeyed nose, with some autolytic yeast notes but undertones of tropical fruit, guava, and passion fruit. The palate follows through with that Burgundian richness, with a lovely, honeyed texture with a bit of pineapple, ginger, and star anise. Crucially, this finishes crisp and clean with a lovely mandarin twist.
This is a blend of 52% Sémillon, 38% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Muscadelle. I suspect the Semillon and Sauvignon Gris account for the Burgundian-style richness, and the aromatics come from the Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. There is a little oak ageing, but it is almost more like adding a little seasoning to the wine rather than a key flavouring component. I certainly think it adds some texture and weight to what is a remarkably impressive wine for a modest price.

"The 2023 Marjosse Blanc is delicious. Crisp and inviting, the 2023 will make a delightful apéritif-style white over the next few years. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper and lime lend lovely nuance throughout. Floral top notes and tropical overtones really explode on the finish. Tasted two times."

"High spice, showing cloves and white pepper along with attractive fleshy peaches, Chinese spice pear, nectarine pit, good balance, gentle finish. 5% oak for ageing, rest in stainless steel, 45hl/h yield. Pierre Lurton owner."

"This has juicy and tense fruit with a zesty and spicy character. Notes of apples and pears. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and crunchy with racy acidity."
