Domaine de la Croix Senaillet 'La Grande Bruyère' 2024

"La Grande Bruyère is typically the richest and broadest of Croix Senaillet's Saint-Vérans, but the freshness of the 2024 vintage gives it a particularly fine sense of balance. Wonderfully expressive from the outset, with citrus zest, crushed stone and a striking flinty, almost autolytic character that, were it not for the absence of bubbles, has something distinctly Champenois about it.

The palate is beautifully pure and precise. There is ripe, generous Chardonnay fruit at its core, but also real drive and tension, with a long, stony finish that brings Chablis to mind. It is a more classical expression than either the 2022 or 2023, combining the breadth you expect from Saint-Véran with considerably more minerality and definition.

Refined, textured and quietly complex, this is exactly the sort of white Burgundy I love. Serious quality without the showiness, or increasingly alarming price tag, of much of the Côte d'Or."
