"Ridge's Lytton Springs, first produced in 1972, is sourced from century-old vines planted in the gravelly clay soils of Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. The 2023 vintage is a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, Mataro, and Alicante Bouschet. The wine is hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, undergoes full malolactic fermentation naturally, and is aged for sixteen months in air-dried American oak barrels. This wine reflects the character of century-old vines and diverse plantings, contributing to its complexity and depth. The 2023 vintage experienced a cold, rainy winter and a cool summer, pushing the growing season back and slowing ripening. The twenty-eight parcels that produced the most typical Lytton Springs were combined and racked to barrel. Fine tannins, moderate ripeness, and focused fruit are hallmarks of the vintage. This elegant wine is enjoyable now and has the structure to evolve over the next ten years. Bursting with vibrant red and black fruit, this wine offers notes of blackberry, raspberry, and dark plum, complemented by peppery spice and floral undertones. The palate is bold yet elegant, with firm tannins and bright acidity enhancing its layered complexity. Hints of vanilla, liquorice, and crushed stone carry through the long, expressive finish."
