Critic reviews
"The 2025 La Clotte reveals aromas of sweet dark berries, spices and creamy new oak, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, fleshy but structured palate. If this can attain better integration during élevage, it will merit a higher score."
William Kelley, April 2026, RobertParker.com
"The 2025 La Clotte comes from four hectares of 40-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils and is aged for 18 months entirely in new oak. This is quite subtle on the nose, demanding a little more coaxing than usual, delivering lovely violet scents that merge with the black cherry and blueberry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins. Perhaps on the mid-palate there is a veneer of new oak that will be subsumed during the élevage and barrel maturation. Moderate length, this is a fine Saint-Émilion from the Vauthier family (again)."
Neal Martin, May 2026, Vinous.com
"The 2025 La Clotte is a powerful, layered wine that needs a few minutes in the glass to open. Lifted floral and savory overtones meld into a core of dark red cherry fruit, mocha, new leather, menthol, licorice and dried herbs. Bright saline notes follow, shaping the mid-palate and finish nicely. This needs time to unwind, but there's a lot of wine here. Gorgeous."
Antonio Galloni, April 2026, Vinous.com
"Energy and momentum, a little more reserved than the Moulin St Georges, rose petals, floral aromatics fully ascendent, grilled incense and sandalwood, raspberry and red cherry fruits, tobacco leaf and salt scrape. This is limestone, tamed. 100% new oak. New winery finished, work still underway for a place to receive visitors. Harvest September 8 to 18, 30hl/h yield, 3.5ph, in the Vauthier family since 2014."
Jane Anson, April 2026, JaneAnson.com
"A touch of rose petals on the nose, fragrant and inviting with freshly-picked red berry fruit. Supple, softly chewy and high energy with great focus and intensity of flavour - there’s concentration but with really bright, almost piercing acidity that keeps this relatively straight and focused. An elegant, friendly and fun style. Touches of flint, iron, graphite and wet stones linger on the finish. Complex and nuanced. I like it. Still a touch high-toned and should soften a little over ageing. 3.5pH. Ageing 100% new oak."
