"The 2025 Mabalel is pure Pinot Noir from Elandskloof, aged for 10 months in 20% new French oak. This has a lovely nose with ebullient red cherry and wild strawberry scents that could seduce at ten paces. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, finely balanced and quite weighty in the mouth for a Pinot without compromising its finesse and delineation. Excellent."

"Some of the grapes for this brilliant Pinot Noir come from vines at 700 metres, which is why Peter-Allan Finlayson eschews the use of whole bunches because of unlignified stems. The result is a layered, savoury delight, with a hint of reduction, lots of zip and acidity, sinewy tannins and lip-smacking wild strawberry and redcurrant fruit. The 20% new oak is right on point."
