"The 2021 Helbig 1915 Shiraz is a very big wine, in packaging, flavor density and length through the finish. The cool and long 2021 season has meant that leaving fruit on the vine was a cinch for producers chasing full flavor and a certain style, and that is evident both in the finish of this wine here (rich, super ripe, leading with figs, dates, rum and raisin/sultana vibe, a hint of poached plum and roast beef juices) and the eventual alcohol—15.8% on the label. The front of the palate and the aromas are excellent, dripping in mulberry, blood plum, raspberry, aniseed and dark chocolate. I find the finish to reveal an unbalanced ledger of ripeness, which detracts from the fresh/saturated feelings of the front palate. Many will disagree with me, and that is ok. The tannins are a highlight here, I think we can all agree on that: chewy, pliable, savory and shapely. 15.8% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax."
Erin Larkin, September 2023, RobertParker.com

"From a vineyard planted in 1915, this opulent 2021 Shiraz Helbig 1915 impresses thanks to a freight train of dark berry aromas - blackberry, fruit pastilles and cocoa are packed tightly with deep-set oak. Super punchy, slightly firm acidity underlines the bright palate. The whole package is compact and built for the long haul."
Angus Hughson, March 2023, Vinous.com

"With homeopathic intensity and concentration of flavour and tannin, this single-block Greenock Shiraz from 1915 vines is not for the faint-hearted. Dense black fruits and a mineral shower of tannins suck you in, molasses-like, but there is surprising detail of blackberry blossom, coltsfoot, blood, Kahlúa, salted liquorice and tapenade crammed in amongst the six-pack of blackcurrant and black and blue berry fruit. Embryonic."
