Fontodi
Chianti Classico 2021
Tuscany, Italy
After many years in the wine trade, I’ve finally found a relatively entry-level Chianti I trust completely. In years gone by, I’ve had some wonderful Chianti, but far too many poor experiences with wines lacking flesh with high acidity and unbalanced alcohol for my taste.
However, in 2015, that changed with my introduction to Fontodi. Their wines are utterly charming, supple, generous, and well-balanced. Even if I haven’t tried a particular vintage, I’m happy to take a case of this Chianti Classico on spec each year for my own ‘cellar’; it comes highly recommended and is extraordinarily consistent from one vintage to the next. Even the troublesome 2017 vintage which I recently had delivered home is an utter delight.

"Deep crimson. Enticing, deep red-fruit nose with hints of white pepper and leather. Succulent red fruit, with the finely grained, plentiful tannins unfurling on the finish."
Walter Speller, March 2024, JancisRobinson.com
