"The 2023 Finca Canal Uco captures the dark-fruited and lush profile this wine typically delivers, qualities made all the more impressive given a warm, dry vintage marked by a significant spring 2022 frost event that struck Paraje Altamira particularly hard. Originating from relatively deep soils within Zuccardi's holdings in the region, it presents a markedly inky, black-fruited and minimalist bouquet compared to its neighboring property, Piedra Infinita. The mouthfeel is equal parts succulent, rich and juicy, effortlessly flowing into a layered, borderline lavish finish that lingers with discreet, powdery tannins and measured acidity. A generous, open-knit expression of Paraje Altamira, it will deliver a more complete drinking experience in its youth than its more structured stablemates in the Finca range."

"Another of the producer's Place de Bordeaux offerings, the 2023 Malbec Finca Canal Uco is aged in concrete over 14 months, coming from one of the first sites planted by the family in the Uco Valley. At 3,609-feet elevation, drawing water from the Tunuyan River, it's granitic and complex, intensely layered in blueberry fruit and white pepper. Gorgeous, it will continue to develop over many years. Hold and drink 2028-2043. These are absolutely stunning wines top to bottom, grown and made across several pueblos in the Valle de Uco by Sebastian Zuccardi and his team, especially viticulturist Martin Di Stefano and head winemaker Laura Principiano. The range goes from regional to village to single-vineyard wines, culminating at the top with two parcel wines, Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal and Gravascal. Try them all."

"A small harvest after the frost of September. The yields are lower and this was early picked. But the fruit retains all its freshness despite the additional concentration. Red and darker berry fruits, all extremely pure and crunchy. Crushed loganberry. In 2023, Finca Canal Uco is punchier than the 2022 but it retains a fantastic elegance and eloquence that is the signature of this estate and the brilliance of its winemaking. It’s beautifully floral again, but with a lovely freshly crushed rose peppercorn note that seems to reinforce the rose petals. There’s hibiscus too and a little peony. Dense and compact, the fruit very tightly held to the spine. Seriously structured yet delightfully lifted and aerial. I love the tactile trace of the tannins that seems to define the external parameters of the fruit’s flow over the palate towards the gracious finish. A vivid and captivating expression of its terroir."
