"Derived from the highest part of the climat, where the soils are characterized by hard limestone mingling with fossils (as opposed to the more clay-rich soils below), the 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos soars from the glass with a bouquet of pear, tangerine zest and honeysuckle, mingling with oyster shell. Samuel Billaud notes that the vines here produce lower-than-average yields due to the grapevine fanleaf virus, le court-noué. Full-bodied, rich and muscular, with excellent concentration, it’s supported by a tangy spine of acidity and concludes with a long, saline finish. It's slightly richer and more powerful than Valmur and Vaudésir but not at the expense of mid-palate amplitude and precision. It will richly reward patience."

"The 2023 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru comes from a 0.10-hectare parcel at the top of the slope from 60-year-old vines that produce one barrel. This is very complex and fragrant on the nose, with lemon thyme, crushed stone, shucked oyster shell and a touch of honeysuckle. The palate is taut and fresh with a fine bead of acidity that cuts through this concentrated Les Clos. Vibrant and penetrating on the finish, it is an intellectual as well as sensory Chablis that should age with style."

"Cask sample. Smells just a little riper and richer than Samuel Billaud's Vaudésir. More clementine than lemon citrus. Subtle but noticeable chewy texture adds depth. Long, structured, with incipient complexity that needs time to unfurl though you could enjoy it in youth."
