"Bottled after 24 months' élevage, much of which took place in large foudres, the 2020 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion offers up aromas of dark berries, plums and spices complemented by hints of rose petal and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, supple and pillowy, with an ample core of fruit framed by melting tannins, it's a suave and charming blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot."
William Kelley, April 2023
"The 2020 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion needed 10–15 minutes in the glass before it gained clarity, eventually delivering ripe black fruit and hints of dark chocolate and licorice, quite heady and ebullient. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins that frame the dark chocolate and allspice-infused black fruit. There’s plenty of flesh toward the finish, although this year I find quite a difference between this and the Grand Vin."
Neal Martin, April 2021
"The 2020 C Des Carmes Haut-Brion is a fabulous second wine. Rich, deep and so expressive, the C Des Carmes Haut-Brion is alluring from the very first taste. Succulent red cherry, spice, new leather, rose petal and cedar all wrap around the palate. The 2020 is brimming with character. Today I find it irresistibly delicious"
Antonio Galloni, May 2021
"Just the colour alone is deep and vibrant. Really get finesse, precision and depth, together with low-lying aromatics and juice that flows in across the palate. Peony and violet are met by liquorice, plum and blueberry. The tannins exert a tug backwards towards the close of play but this is a delicious wine that I strongly suggest trying. You could drink this soon, because of the mouthwatering juice, or keep for a good decade. 20% stems, 25% new oak, 75% of large casks, 13 months ageing."
Jane Anson, December 2022
"A fruity and bright red with cherries, redcurrants and sea salt. Medium to full body. Lovely tannins that are melted in the wine. Juicy and dynamic. 100% whole cluster fermentation. From vineyards in Pessac Leognan. This is really fantastic and so energetic. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Drink or hold"
