With its blend of 66% Shiraz, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Keyneton Euphonium is a more structured Syrah-based blend than the Henry's Seven. Less generous young, it promises at least a decade of cellaring potential. Hints of cedar and green-edged tobacco appear on the nose, alongside scents of cassis, mocha and pristine earthy notes of clean compost. It's medium to full-bodied, with tannins that are both silky and firm providing focus and length.
Joe Czerwinski, May 2020

"Brilliant violet color. Mineral- and smoke-accented aromas of ripe dark berries, licorice and vanilla on the deeply perfumed nose, along with hints of cracked pepper that builds in the glass. Offers juicy, palate-coating cherry-vanilla and blackcurrant flavors that are supported by an undercurrent of smoky minerality that adds lift and back-end cut. Takes on a suave floral nuance on the long, supple finish, which is given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins."
Josh Raynolds, January 2021

"Decanting recommended and in this case I can see why. It's still much more youthful than the other two Henschke 2015s I have tasted so far – Euphonium and Cyril Henschke. The tight, introvert aromas of balsam and dried grasses are just starting to come out. There's a definite touch of mint there too. This is drier and less flattering than the other two at the moment, with a minerally undertow. Strongly savoury finish and beautifully made but not nearly ready. I may come back and revise this note once the wine has sat in a decanter for a while but I'd advise stashing it in a cellar for now. And, gosh, it needs food! But it certainly mellowed in the glass and overnight. Lovely after 24 hours."

"Fresh, pungent, purple blackberry fruit dominates the nose, then deeper tar, liquorice, cassis and molasses sweetness before the Eden Valley Shiraz signatures of sage and bay leaf add verve. Very complex. The palate dries to a bony savouriness – a nod to the strength and muscle of Keyneton Shiraz, putting added steel into the structure of this wine. A taut acid line and sturdy yet understated tannins keep the flavours bright and long, through to a soft finish. Such measured power and drive suggests a long life in the cellar. Released at AUD$60/bottle ($40)."
