Karl Johner Pinot Noir
Baden 2020
Baden, Germany
Having spent a decade in Kent at Lamberhust Vineyard , Karl Heinz Johner and his wife Irene founded a winery in their home town of “Bischoffingen” in the Kaiserstuhl, a range of volcanic mountains in Baden.
The Spätburgunders (Pinot Noirs) of the Kaiserstuhl are some of my favourite wines regarding value for money. They are so distinctive, with a slightly flinty, smoky element to them. When they’re good, they offer so much Pinot Noir expression and invariably offer us Burgundy lovers what we crave from Burgundy at a far keener price.
